I needed a bike that could stand up to this journey and one which I was able to handle, not being an off road rider this was going to be quite a challenge.
After much questioning of people and much reading of web sites it came down to three bikes KTM EXC 535, KTM Adventure and the GS BMW. Much head scratching was done again to narrow it down to one.
The end result came out like this the 535 was going to be a bit of a bone shaker on the hard track surface's, though easier to use in the sand, the BMW would be great on the hard track surface's but with my limited off road riding (none) at this stage would be a handful in the sand, so it fell to the Adventurer as the middle of the road bike on both surfaces, plus the same model of bike has proved to be more than capable in the Dakar Rally.
Now that decision was made all we had to do was find a bike, a lot easier said than done.
First I tried the dealers to see if any of them would product support me, all I got was a big fat NO!
Back on the internet again searching the county for a bike, after many phone calls and driving miles up and down the country we found Big Blue.
He was tired and worn and had a water pump seal than had given up the ghost, so the oil looked like a coffee Latte, but it was in our price range and we had already agreed than what ever we got we would strip and rebuild her.
We brought her from these picture's
